It was revealed today that uneployment figures could become higher than predicted.
If employers are tightening their belts, then that is a solid sign that WE need to do the same. Eliminate all unnecessary outgoings and reduce all excess expenditure. Here are just a few ideas:

• Check through your direct debits and standing orders. This is often a good way to clear out any potential money waste
• For what you would spend on one meal out, buy a cook book and start cooking more at home. For what it costs to buy one bottle of wine in a restaurant, you can buy better wine, food and treats for two to have at home.
• Going to the pub is essential, but costly. Perhaps consider reducing your trips and instead get friends over to yours for a drink or a meal. Or, if you do go out, set a limit. We all know what can happen!
• Are you paying interest on your credit card? Look for cards that offer 0% balance transfers and 0% interest on balances transferred. Then, don’t use the card - simply pay it off as and when you can afford to.
• Visit uswitch.com and see if you could be saving money on gas and electric. Also, consider wearing an extra layer and turning down the thermostat - at least until the prices come back down.
• Sell anything you don’t want - online or at a car bot sale. Ebay is expensive, so also try preloved.co.uk, gumtree.co.uk and freeads.co.uk.
• Try your hand at DIY instead of paying vast amounts for labour.
• Look around for cheaper travel insurance, life insurance, car insurance, home insurance etc.
• Quit the gym - the world outside is free.
• Leave the car - AND CYCLE!

As we reach our 6 month birthday, we have started to look back on our recent but humble birth. I have just got off the phone to a prospective customer and it was during my conversation with her that I truly came to realise just how brilliant our new hybrid modern Dutch bikes (£139.99 inc. delivery) are.

As the UK’s first ever exclusively affordable bicycle brand, we have to be very careful about where we have our bikes made, who makes them and how well they make them. To sell to people with a budget, we need to buy with a budget in mind.

Until now, our bikes (along with almost every single bike brand you can name) have been manufactured in the Far East. They have been brilliant too - but we were always conscious of one thing, the distance they need to travel before they reach you. Initially it began with the fact that it was costing us (and subsequently you) a lot to ship them over, and stemming from that was the fact that we were leaving a significant ‘carbon footprint’ behind us. Founder, Freddie Bourne, thought this was actually a bit hypocritical - why sell green transport but knacker the environment in the process? So with a heavy heart we announced to our trusty manufacturers that we were going to look closer to home.

 ALL bikes now in our range will be manufactured within the EU, and thanks to our substantial size and buying power, we have managed to agree prices that mean we can still be the UK’s most affordable bicycle brand.

I was seeing to my doctor this morning and as ever, he was asking about business. He told me that he now has two bicycles - one which he keeps at home and the other comes in the back of his car to work, meaning he can then cycle around town during the day and not waste money.
