Rear wicker baskets now available

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Every now and then we ask our customers what else they want that we don’t have and one thing some people asked for was a rear wicker basket. Some people found them more stable, more convenient and quite cool looking.
The baskets we have sourced are hand made from strong buff willow and attach to any carry rack using simple cable ties (supplied).

Personally, we think they look even better when used as part of a set

QUALITY IS VITAL – All Capital Bikes are now made in Europe

Monday, November 17th, 2008

We are like the Ikea of the bicycle world and we operate our business around three keywords – quality, reliability, affordability. To do this we are continually and exhaustively meeting with new manufacturers and suppliers, testing samples and constantly working to increase and improve our range of bicycles whilst at the same time remaining affordable for everyone.

Unlike almost any other affordable bicycle brand who have their bikes made in China and India, we have moved production away from here and our bicycles are now made exclusively within Europe, where producers have to meet strict European Commission standards and where every bike is tested to the the most stringent European standards. As we are much nearer to them it also means that can oversee production, keeping a close and personal eye on our bikes. With most of our components coming from Italy and Germany, we are confident about their longevity and reliability too.

Buy from us and you buy with confidence.

Thanks.

Capital's HYBRID BICYCLES – All purpose bikes, good for everything

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

I have just got off the phone to a prospective customer and it was during my conversation with her that I truly came to realise just how brilliant our new hybrid modern Dutch bikes (£179.99 inc. delivery) are.

They are phenomenally well built, lightweight (18kg), use top of the range parts and are suitable for almost every kind of terrain that Great Britain could possibly throw at us – hills, fields, cycle paths and of course high streets.  They are the definite all-purpose bike, ideal for anyone on a budget who wants a bike to get around. As it so happens, they are also very beautiful – dark British racing green with jet black accessories.

Our new hybrid bikes – relaible, equipped, affordable

Cutting our carbon footprint – Capital Cycles is moving production to Europe!

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

As the UK’s first ever exclusively affordable bicycle brand, we have to be very careful about where we have our bikes made, who makes them and how well they make them. To sell to people with a budget, we need to buy with a budget in mind.

Until now, our bikes (along with almost every single bike brand you can name) have been manufactured in the Far East. They have been brilliant too – but we were always conscious of one thing, the distance they need to travel before they reach you. Initially it began with the fact that it was costing us (and subsequently you) a lot to ship them over, and stemming from that was the fact that we were leaving a significant ‘carbon footprint’ behind us. Founder, Freddie Bourne, thought this was actually a bit hypocritical – why sell green transport but knacker the environment in the process? So with a heavy heart we announced to our trusty manufacturers that we were going to look closer to home.

ALL bikes now in our range will be manufactured within the EU, and thanks to our substantial size and buying power, we have managed to agree prices that mean we can still be the UK’s most affordable bicycle brand.

If you want to know more about anything written here, please contact us at your own leisure.
Take care.

Our brand new 'Modern Dutch/Hybrid' bike is the ULTIMATE City/Hybrid Bike

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

We at Capital Cycles don’t generally do things by the book. If we did, our bikes would cost twice as much and they would be covered in brash colours and too many gears.

So in accordance with our custom, we just want to help introduce you to the new Hybrid bicycle – The Capital ‘Modern Dutch/Hybrid’ bike range. By all intents and purposes they are the same as a hybrid or city bicycle - they have large qlloy wheels, lightweight steel trekking frames, mudguards and even come with a free carry rack and centre stand. They are purpose built to withstand the onslaught that everyday use gives a bicycle. Only here is where ours are different, and why:

Our bicycles cost a fraction of what any other hybrid/city bike will cost because the Capital Cycles brand is a new and unique bicycle brand. it was created, inspired and launched by one person who wanted to make cycling affordable for everybody. He was not profit driven, but instead angered by the rising cost of living and the extortionate price of fuel and public transport. He put onto paper what he felt a city/commuting bicycle needs, sourced Asian and European manufacturers and got them to build the bikes.

They are built to withstand abuse, priced to withstand thieves and equipped to keep you satisfied from the word go.  From £140 – they are even delivered free to any UK mainland address.

The advantages of the Modern Dutch Ladies Bicycle

Monday, October 20th, 2008

We have spent months working on this new addition to the Capital family and finally we almost have it – the more convenient sister to the Classic Dutch bike – the Modern Dutch Ladies bicycle. Here is why it’s different to the Classic:

1) It weighs less - about 7kg less in fact!
2) It has 6 gears instead of 3 – making it more suitable for hilly areas and everyday use
3) It is designed and built for ease of use, everyday convenience and is very low maintainence
4) It is equipped to be a complete solution to your needs, be it commuting, shopping or grazing through the park with family or friends.
5) We have worked hard to give it a classic, yet contemporary feel and look. This should make it a safe bet for anyone who wants a beautiful bike for Christmas.
5) It costs just £160 delivered

If you have any questions or wish to pre-order (we only have a limited number arriving), just call or email us.

Thanks

Rear wicker baskets – do you want them?

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

The introduction of our large, front wicker bicycle baskets (£28.99 )has been a great success. For almost every Modern Dutch hybrid bike sold, a wicker basket follows. They are beautiful, affordable and really simple to attach and remove.

What we want to know is – do you want rear baskets too? If we get a resounding YES from this, we shall make it happen, just give us the word. They will probably cost around the same.

NOTE: we now have them – click here!

WICKER BICYCLE BASKETS – buy them here

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Introducing the brand new wicker bicycle baskets (£27.99 inc delivery). They are absolutely fantastic – beautifully made, hand varnished and large enough to carry a terrier puppy! They are easy to attach and only require removing the front light from the bracket.

The Classic Dutch style bikes have already been a truimphant success. So why not add function without sacrificing glamour?

TOTALLY STUNNING! – our new Classic Dutch Style bikes

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Absolutely sensational. Eye catching. Captivating. Spine tingling.

Our brand new Classic Dutch style bikes are more beautiful than we ever planned for them to be. In fact, they are perfect. Every single part feels weighty with high quality components and hand crafted precision. The drop down centre stand is a small work of art and the hand painted gold lines on the mudguards are breath taking. The deep, deep racing green absorbs the sunlight and the dark glow the frame exudes is hypnotic.

So the catch? You need a spanner, a screwdriver, a pair of flat head pliers and a little knowledge for the gear unit. Even if you need to have the gears done by a shop, you are still securing an extraordinary deal.

Building this bike is all very easy until you get to the front brake and Sturmey Archer gears. Our advice is this: do all the simple things yourself and then take the bike to a shop to do the gears, brakes and a general inspection of the bike. This will cost no more than £35 and is a good idea. Or of course, if you are DIY and bike savvy, you can save this small extra cost.

Either way – you will be very, very happy when you receive your brand new Dutch Bike.
