Yesterday, i had to take the bus from Putney to Picadilly. I wrote this on the way:

“Its hot, I’m sweaty and this bus isn’t even moving. I feel like a fly caught in an upturned glass, in direct sunlight. Why all this when I can be free, cool, feel the breeze and be moving instead of stuck in a cloud of diesel fumes?
All I can see ahead of me is traffic and as I sit here, still and sweaty, cyclists are cruising past me, making their way to where they want to be – with cool dignity and gentle grace.
I’m sat here, squashed into the wall by a friendly but large lady, and for entertainment I have people talking on their phones loud enough to make you question whether they even need a phone to be heard by the person they’re talking to.“

Perhaps I am alone in thinking this slower, sweatier, costlier and aggravating form of transport is the less good option – but I doubt it.

I decided to ride one of our bicycles from the heart of London to the suburbs as hard as possible to see how it stood up against constant gear changes, heavy braking and general traffic weaving.

I cycled from Parliament Square in London to Putney bridge (5.8 miles) – in 28 minutes. Not a single nut came loose, nor did i find that 6 gears wasn’t enough. The bike, the upright riding position, the gears and the brakes were perfect:

Easy to weave through traffic
Light and smooth
Comfortable and swift brakes and gears
and owing to the ’sit upright’ riding position afforded by the swept back handlebars, i could see above the traffic and more importantly, the traffic could see me.

These bikes may be extremely affordable, but what i learnt from this short journey is that these hybrid bikes are perfect and ready for town use, commuting and so much more.

This is a greater achievement then we ever predicted – since launching Capital Cycles in May last year (2008), we have sold over 800 bicycles throughout the UK.
Over the past 10 months, we have worked constantly on developing and improving our bicycles and our service and as a result, what we have now is simply brilliant – we have developed the UK’s first truly reliable and comprehensive affordable bicycle brand.
