We are like the Ikea of the bicycle world and we operate our business around three keywords - quality, reliability, affordability. To do this we are continually and exhaustively meeting with new manufacturers and suppliers, testing samples and constantly working to increase and improve our range of bicycles whilst at the same time remaining affordable for everyone.

Unlike almost any other affordable bicycle brand who have their bikes made in China and India, we have moved production away from here and our bicycles are now made exclusively within Europe, where producers have to meet strict European Commission standards and where every bike is tested to the the most stringent European standards. As we are much nearer to them it also means that can oversee production, keeping a close and personal eye on our bikes. With most of our components coming from Italy and Germany, we are confident about their longevity and reliability too.

As we reach our 6 month birthday, we have started to look back on our recent but humble birth. It is by looking back at our triumphant May launch that we are now looking forward the way we are, with the hopes, plans and intentions that we have - we are gently building our range, improving every aspect of quality and service, and just gradually making the ‘Capital Cycles’ brand the trusted household name, a name synonymous with polite service, exemplary customer care, total simplicity and above all - affordability.

By the summer of 2009 we even have plans to open our first shop! That is right - the affordable online bicycle company intends to bridge the gap between IT and reality with a daunting but exciting move onto the high street.

This is just the sort of thing we love. As the UK’s simplest and most affordable online bicycle shop, our modern Dutch hybrid bikes and classic Dutch bikes have become something of a talking point amongst people who appreciate that they do not want to spend several hundred pounds on a bicycle.

Now, we have recently discovered that we have also been recommended by the brand new and already much talked about ‘cyclesocial’ website!

As the UK’s first ever exclusively affordable bicycle brand, we have to be very careful about where we have our bikes made, who makes them and how well they make them. To sell to people with a budget, we need to buy with a budget in mind.

Until now, our bikes (along with almost every single bike brand you can name) have been manufactured in the Far East. They have been brilliant too - but we were always conscious of one thing, the distance they need to travel before they reach you. Initially it began with the fact that it was costing us (and subsequently you) a lot to ship them over, and stemming from that was the fact that we were leaving a significant ‘carbon footprint’ behind us. Founder, Freddie Bourne, thought this was actually a bit hypocritical - why sell green transport but knacker the environment in the process? So with a heavy heart we announced to our trusty manufacturers that we were going to look closer to home.

 ALL bikes now in our range will be manufactured within the EU, and thanks to our substantial size and buying power, we have managed to agree prices that mean we can still be the UK’s most affordable bicycle brand.

Most online shops do not accept American Express Credit cards and there is a good reason why - it costs us, the vendor, a fortune in charges.

Well we have had a fair few customers asking if they can pay using their AmEx card so we have decided to go for it anyway. We don’t just make it easy for you to buy a bicycle, we want to make every part of the experirence easy and as convenient as possible for you too.

Our little business has now been running for a little while, and in that time we have helped revolutionise the bicycle industry. In our original mission statement it was our goal to make new bicycles affordable for everyone. We have maintained this goal and furthermore we have also been able to provide people with the sorts of the bicycles they have always dreamt of, but never felt justified buying.

Our range of Classic Dutch style bikes has been a headline success, making it into thisismoney.co.uk and even stirring up the interest of the Times ‘Style’ magasine (watch this space). But this is not what i want to say here.
