Helping YOU survive the ‘Credit Crunch’. Bikes are cheap to run, ours are cheap to buy too!
Friday, August 29th, 2008People often ask me if i am worried about my business surviving the ‘credit crunch’. The first thing i tell them is to stop being so silly and call it what is - a recession. The second thing i tell them, is no.
Capital Cycles was born out of the obsession that cycling should be affordable for anyone and everyone. Not only is it by its very nature a cheap and sustainable means of transport, but now we have come along and even made the initial investment completely affordable - we sell hybrid bikes for £75 delivered, folding bikes for £99 delivered, Classics from £150! We must be a little mad. Well, i am a bit, but i don’t mind. We operate on the basis of making a very small profit from each sale, but producing lots of sales to compensate. Most businesses do it the other way round - they like to make a big profit from each sale, that way it doesn’t matter if fewer people buy the bikes.
We buck the trend, and we are proud to do so. Most of my customers are people who have had their bike stolen and they are not prepared to spend upwards of £400 on a new one.
Our business is what some people might call ‘defensive’ towards the recession. As people start to tighten the purse strings, the first luxuries to go will be things like that one mile drive to the shop for the paper. For others, it might even be ditching your annual Oyster card renewal in favour of a bike and top up ‘pay as you go’ card!
In short, if you worried about feeling the pinch or perhaps already are, we can help. If you need to ask us anything, please just contact us at your leisure.
