A Day out on the Classic Dutch Style Bikes

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Last week end was beautiful and the weather was incredibly kind to us and so my girlfriend and i decided we would take the opportunity to road test the Capital Classic Dutch Style bikes. Here is a brief summary of our experience.

It was gone midday before we left home and after we had asjusted the seats to suit our riding positions (i am 5′5″, my girlfriend is 5′7″) we set off over Wandsworth Bridge and up towards Chelsea.
The first comment either of us had to make was how gentle they are to ride. You may not be able to go too fast, but with those enormous 28″ wheels and Sturmey Archer 3 speed gears to help, even the steep Wandsworth Bridge was less of a challenge than i had feared. It was made immediately clear that provided you are not in a rush, these bicycles can get you any where you want, with grace and elegance. The archetypal ’sit up and beg’ posture you attain further reinforces this and also means that not only are you forced into a relaxing riding position, but this somehow also affects how you feel. You cannot help but feel relaxed and happy.

Finally we made it up through Chelsea and into Knightsbridge (this took about 40 minutes). We stopped at the supermarket to buy lunch and this is where Heidi’s wicker bicycle basket (£25.99 )now found its true purpose. We have chosen to sell large bsakets and i can tell you now, they hold enough. From here we rode up into Hyde Park, found a quiet, shaded spot, set the bikes on their solid kickdown centre stands and started eating.
It was not long before the bikes started to attract a crowd. People passing by were regualrly stopping to look a the bikes. We made them feel free to play with them, get on them and pedal about. They were loved. When i then told them the price (£165 equipped and delivered) they could hardly believe their ears.

We are here to help people who either do not have the funds or do not wish to spend too much money on a bicycle. Our bicycles are more simple than other more expensive brands, but they are are reliable and beautiful.

Have a look around our bike shop and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Have a great week!

The Parisian Beauty of London - yours for the taking!

Friday, June 27th, 2008

One of our customers rides the Classic Dutch style bike (£165) to work, across SW London into Mayfair. Here is a brief account of her trip this morning that she very kindly sent by email:

“I loved my ride in (to work) this morning, The sun was shining and it was just lovely! There are certain parts of the city which I just love.  For example:- love, love, love Fulham and Chelsea because it’s where I would like to live, love the shops and love the houses, there is a bakery on the left just after the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital that bakes fresh bread and pastry’s and I always get hit by the smell as I ride past! Every morning, without fail.  Then, there is a set of traffic lights about 250 yards before I have to turn right into the west end and it feels and smells so Parisian, you could almost be there, people eating breakfast outside the café, the smell of breakfast and also the general smell, I can’t explain it, but it smells French.”

These bikes allow you to glide through Rush Hour. What is most people’s nightmare has become your highlight - and all because of a bicycle.

You wouldn’t get this on the Tube.

London Transport - “people have it worse than caged hens”

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

BBC London news covered a story this evening (Thursday 26th), revealing that hens have the right to more space in a cage than human beings do on the London Underground. If hens were the size uf humans, only 28 would be allowed in a tube carriage. In reality, up to 89  human passengers are allowed!

If that is not enough, congestion on public transport is expected to rise by 30% over the next ten years. The Government has planned to spend £8 billion by 2025 - “a cold comfort” for those of us who have just come home through Rush Hour and will be getting up in it tomorrow.

Do you want to be a hen statistic? We don’t and that is why we created Capital Cycles. This is your affordable opportunity to get out of the sweat laden cess pit which is the Tube and to become an individual once again, in every sense.

Ciao!

TOTALLY STUNNING! - our new Classic Dutch Style bikes

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Absolutely sensational. Eye catching. Captivating. Spine tingling.

Our brand new Classic Dutch style bikes are more beautiful than we ever planned for them to be. In fact, they are perfect. Every single part feels weighty with high quality components and hand crafted precision. The drop down centre stand is a small work of art and the hand painted gold lines on the mudguards are breath taking. The deep, deep racing green absorbs the sunlight and the dark glow the frame exudes is hypnotic.

So the catch? You need a spanner, a screwdriver, a pair of flat head pliers and a little knowledge for the gear unit. Even if you need to have the gears done by a shop, you are still securing an extraordinary deal.

Building this bike is all very easy until you get to the front brake and Sturmey Archer gears. Our advice is this: do all the simple things yourself and then take the bike to a shop to do the gears, brakes and a general inspection of the bike. This will cost no more than £35 and is a good idea. Or of course, if you are DIY and bike savvy, you can save this small extra cost.

Either way - you will be very, very happy when you receive your brand new Dutch Bike.

CLEARANCE BIKES - make a profit selling the parts!

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Here’s an idea. Buy our ludicrously priced Gents stock clearance hybrid bike and sell on the bike parts for more than the amount you paid for it!

BIKE SPARES:
700cc Samson alloy rims x 2 - £20/pair
road tyres x 2 - £10/pair
Full length steel Front and back mudguards - £25
Steel rear carry rack - £10 - £15
Seat and seat post - £5
Dynamo light set, front and back - £7.50
Steel semi chainguard - £7.50
Shimano 6 speed rear derailleur, complete setup - £15
Brake levers - £5/pair
Bike chain - £5

There is much more to sell, it just depends how much you want to strip off. All these parts are standard, so they will be easy to sell. Everybody has wheels nicked, needs a set of mudguards or fancies a carry rack. Make it happen and make some money at the same time! All it takes from you is a little disassembly and some bubble wrap!

Please note, these prices are suggested selling prices and are not a guaranteed price. They could sell for more. That just depends on your selling skills!

National Bike Week - 14th - 22nd June

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

It is National Bike Week! Get out of the car, onto a bike and save money, get fit and see things you would never normally see.

I was recently riding one of our Clearance Bikes (£99 inc delivery) across London, and as i crossed Wandsworth Bridge, i noticed for the first time some of the architecture which is being placed on our river front. Some of it is great, some is not so great.

But more importantly, with the cost of fuel rising to £1.20 a litre, aren’t you tired of being ripped off? Just for this week, see what happens to your outgoing costs if you switch every short car journey for a bike ride. The weather is great too, so no excuses there!

With the ‘credit crunch’ that we are all tired of talking about, you might be helping yourself a little more than you originally though. PLUS, with our clearance bikes you only need to spend £99 to get on the road!!! That price includes free UK mainland delivery and all the extra accessories you could dream of. All that is left to buy is a lock and a helmet.

Come on, give it a go - enjoy.

**Folding Bike Special Offer - this week only!**

Monday, June 16th, 2008

This week only, we are selling ALL folding bikes for a reduced price of £110 - including delivery!

Furthermore, if you want to buy more than one bicycle, give us a call or ask for a Capital Callback and we will arrange a special discount to thank you.

And remember, our folding bikes come with 6 speed Shimano Gears, are easy to use, weigh only 12.5kg and come with a 12 month warranty.

After this week, the price will be put back up to the standard price of £120 - so grab it now!
